TERM ONE EDUCATION REPORT

Education Program

Together, we are building brighter futures through primary and secondary school support, university education, vocational training, and community transformation creating hope and opportunity through education.

Overview

The education program has greatly continued to impact lives as children rehabilitate at the shelters and in boarding schools. It is not only helping them transform emotionally, mentally, physically, and psychologically, but also awakening future dreams that many children continue to carry throughout their lives.

We have all our privately owned schools due to the high and better quality of education they provide to the children. This has enabled our children to catch up early, since many of them spent years on the streets, which left them far behind in schoolwork.

Our education program continues to support children and youth by ensuring access to quality education at different learning levels. We have children in kindergarten, primary, secondary, vocational training, and university, and it is truly a joy to see both the impact of the program and the successful outcomes of their enrollment in schools. Through donor support and community partnerships, children are able to remain in school and continue building a brighter future. Sheltering

Academic Performance

The academic year has reflected positive progress among our children. Many learners showed improvement in classroom participation, school attendance, discipline, and overall confidence in their studies. In general, the children performed well in their midterm examinations, with most attaining very good results that demonstrated strong academic growth. However, the Grade Two boys experienced difficulties in reading and writing. Although there were discussions about moving them to Grade One, they were retained in Grade Two because of their age and physical maturity, with plans to strengthen their learning through extra studies during the holidays. Candidates in boarding schools continue to benefit from a focused learning environment that supports their academic improvement.

✔There has been increased school attendance and participation, as our children attended nearly all classes and only missed a few instances due to illness or, at times, when they were sent home to collect school fees.

✔Strong teacher commitment to supporting our children’s learning, providing them with a positive and supportive school environment.

✔ Improved confidence among children enrolled in vocational skills training, with most of them beginning to take up various placements and two being retained.

✔Two of our university students are doing very well and have adapted to university life and the challenges that come with it. One is pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, while another is studying Political Science. The student for Agriculture will enroll this coming August.

✔ We also have three children expected to join university this August, and we are hopeful that we will be able to raise the funds needed for their tuition.

Challenges

  • Rising school fees continue to affect many of our children, making it necessary at times to transfer them to different schools, which in turn results in additional costs.
  • Delayed enrollment for some of our children occurred as we had to prioritize placing those in critical classes first, ensuring they did not miss registration, especially those preparing to sit for their national examinations.
  • An increase in school fees, charges, and scholastic materials at the different schools attended by the children further created challenges when enrolling them for the first term this year.
  • Increasing national registration requirements have created additional costs, and the limited funds available have significantly challenged our education program.

Transitional Improvements

We are witnessing a huge transformation in the lives of our children both at school and at the shelters;

  • Improved follow-up and mentorship programs through which the children receive continuous counseling and guidance at school.
  • Stronger collaboration with schools, especially head teachers and directors, to help them better understand the situations of our children.
  • Better monitoring of attendance and academic progress through midterm tests, morning assessments, and end-of-term examinations.
  • More vocational opportunities for our children at different placement centers where they continue to acquire practical skills.

School Attendance This Term

A total of 70 children attended school this term through education sponsorship and emergency support assistance.

Unfortunately, 21 children did not attend school this past semester due to financial limitations and school fee challenges.

Appreciation

We sincerely thank our friends in Canada for contributing $300 toward children's school fees.
